4/26/12

As of today Ed continues into his fourth week of chemo and radiation.  The main thing is that Ed is tired, which is to be expected.  He was able to come to some of the church functions the other day and even stopped by the offices.  We are hoping he will come to worship soon and be back with the church family.  There are no new needs, but to continue to let God lead you to love, pray and give. Ed is so dear to this church and community.  Lord hear our prayers!

4/9/12

Ed’s treatments continue to go well.  He has had now over a week of radiation and chemo in pill form.  His strength is what seems to be limited.  He feels good some days and then is wiped out on others.  But he feels the love of his church and that means more than anything in the world.  Let’s continue to pour it on him.  He is a testimony of strength and love.  Be looking for a possible care page for him and please note that a bank account has been created for him for those who would like to donate.  Contributions for medical expenses etc. can be mailed to First Cherokee State Bank at either of three offices listed below.  You can make your check out to “Benefit for Ed Towers.”  You can also make a check payable to the church and we can then write a check to the account.

Ed made a surprise visit to the church yesterday and has really put together some good days.  He is getting ready for treatments and more than ever his spirit is ready to get on with this so he can get back into life again.  We are so proud of how far he has come.  He has a long way to go yet, but if anyone can do it…he can.  GOD IS GOOD ALL TIME!!

3/20/12

Ed is close to starting treatments.  I had a great visit with him and Sheila on Sunday night and they are over the stomach flu.  He looked great and his spirits were incredible.  He is ready for what is ahead and his faith shines like a diamond.  The phrase I love hearing from him the most is…GOD HAS THE LAST WORD ON THIS!  He does and I love Ed’s faith and courage.  Keep praying.  Love you all.

3/15/12

8:58 AM:  Ed goes for more tests today and is doing better with the stomach flu.  In fact, he and Sheila have recovered.  He lost a ton of weight.  He could start chemo and treatments as early as next week.  Taking meals to them has been suspended.  Please be buying them gift cards to their favorite places to eat.  We will be posting that shortly.

All in all, he is in good spirits and ready to take this next step.  I know you hate this, but please no visits.  He is just still so weak.  Thanks for all you do!  Love you all.

3/14/12

7:48 AM:  Ed is tired.  Very tired.  But mending from the stomach virus.  That has been the worst!  He had a good visit to the doctor yesterday and was updated on all the future treatments.  He went through a battery of tests and did great.  All his reflexes,  brain function are 100% good.  Now to start killing the malignancy.  Thank you for not just coming to the house unexpected.  They have been so sick.  Continue to pray for Sheila.  Remember no more food until otherwise notified.  We need to be patient as caregivers and continue to pray.  That’s all for now!  Love you all.

3/12/12

10:46AM:  As of today Ed and Sheila are beginning to recover from a violent stomach flu.  However, no meals need to be sent.  So if you were scheduled please cancel until further notified.  I have talked to Ed several times and he is just looking forward to getting better with the virus and then tackling chemo and radiation in a couple of weeks.  He sounds strong and determined!   This is good news.  So please pray.  Continue to feed him those emails and cards.  We love him and miss him!  He feels the same!  Love you all.

3/9/12

9:32 AM:  As of this morning BOTH Ed and Sheila have a bad stomach virus.  Please do not call or visit!  IF YOU ARE TAKING A MEAL TO THEM either today, tomorrow, Sunday or Monday…PLEASE CANCEL.  They will not be receiving any food at this time.  Thank you for your attention to this matter.  This will pass.  God is good.  Just keep praying!

3/8/12

11:50 AM:  As of today both Ed and Sheila have a stomach virus so DO NOT GO TO THE HOUSE.  Very untimely, but it will pass.  Canton First UMC is just the most wonderful church.  Thank you for praying, responding, sending, helping, cooking and all the rest for Ed.  Please surround them in prayer!!  Love you all!

3/6/12

5:50 PM:  Tonight Ed is traveling home after seeing the doctors and the report was not what they hoped for.  The tumor is malignant.  However, I spoke with Ed and he said this, “We have heard the worst, but now is the time we start living and moving forward!”  Those are words of faith, courage and love.  Today church we pray for Ed and his family.  TODAY we will show that same FAITH, COURAGE and LOVE!  Please pour your prayers upon him now.

In four weeks he will begin treatment.  He will start a road to recovery.  Then when we get Ed back in the pulpit we will celebrate God’s tremendous love!  We will take nothing less!!!!  WATCH OUT WORLD…WATCH WHAT GOD CAN DO!!!

3/5/12

8:57 AM:  Yesterday I was able to spend some time with Ed and he just looked incredible.  He didn’t have that glazed look in his eyes.  He was ALL there!  It made me feel so comforted to be talking to the Ed I have come to love and respect in such a short time.  Praise God!!!  He so loves the meals and I went to check the meal calendar and it is just about full.  He and Sheila feel so blessed to have such an incredible church family.  Thanks for pouring it on them and also for giving them some space.  He is still so tired and it’s going to be a SLOW recovery.  The results of the test are tomorrow so continue to pray for them.  But let me tell you they are ready for anything and that is good news!   Keep you posted.  Love you all!

3/1/12

8:22 AM:  This morning Ed is of course at home and doing great.  Here is the link for you to sign up to bring Ed food…HERE.  There will also be an opportunity on Sunday for you volunteer for some specific items for Ed.  But please no visitors yet.  Cards and emails.  We will let you know when you can make a visit.  Right now the family thanks you so much for all the love.  CANTON FIRST UMC is just a great place!!! Thanks for making it real to Ed and his family.  We will keep you in the LOOP!!  Peace.

2/29/12

7:59 AM: Well, prayers have been answered…ED COMES HOME TODAY!!! WOW…this is just incredible.  He will be getting home around noon or somewhere around that time.  However, the family really asks to hold off on calling or visiting. Keep sending your cards.  He is still weak and will require therapy so just continue to send cards.  We will have something out a bit later on getting food etc. to him. Please do not take food over yet.  It will be way too overwhelming the first day back. Let them get settled.

His journey in a lot of ways is just beginning so don’t stop praying!!  Love you all and that is all for now!  PEACE!

2/28/12

8:38 AM:  In a short while I leave to see Ed.  I bring cards galore and a few big surprises.  I told him I needed to be his PUBLICIST!  So I will update you from the hospital after I visit with him.  God continues to bless and pour his love on this great guy.  So hold tight and I will get you an update later this morning.  Peace to all!

1:19 PM:  Just saw Ed and he is doing AMAZING!  Helped him get into a regular room so he is out of ICU.  YEAH!  Also, gave him a ton of your cards and a brand new laptop computer (long overdue).  It might even be tomorrow for him to leave the hospital.  All in all, he looks great.  He is talking great.  He has been walking around.  He is on his way!!!  In the next day or so we will be getting info out to you on how to help them as they get home.  Be looking for it.  That’s all for now…GOD IS GOOOOOODDDDDDDDDD!

2/27/12

8:52 AM:  Well, this morning Ed is really back to his normal self after a rough day yesterday.  He was sitting up and having a normal conversation. He was clear in his mind as well with no confusion at all.  Hopefully he will be out of ICU either today or tomorrow.  We will keep you posted.

Don is with him now and I will go again today to see him.   Keep praying church!  God is good!

That’s all for now!

11:45 AM:  Just got a call from Don and he said that all scans are negative for cancer…PRAISE GOD!  However, the biopsy of the mass are still not back.  They will know something later this week.  What is even better is that Ed might get into a room today and if he responds like the doctors think he will be going home much sooner than expected…INCREDIBLE!  So keep those prayers rolling from your lips.  God is listening!

That’s all for now!

9:30 PM:  Ed is up walking around – will be moved out of ICU tomorrow – hopefully home Wednesday.  Lisa was able to take him lunch and had a nice visit with him.  I was able to talk to him on the phone today.  His progress has been incredible.  This is such great news.  I will update tomorrow.  Peace to all.

2/26/12

As of tonight I was able to see Sheila and the family at Emory.  We gave them the computer and a ton of cards from the kids and people from the church.  Ed was not taking visitors, because he has had a rather tough day.  There has been some pain and confusion, which is typical with this type of surgery.  They are expecting to be out of ICU tomorrow or the next day.  The good news is that some of the results of the scans have shown NO cancer in the abdomen or colon.  There are other results not back yet for other parts of his body, but this is very encouraging.  The main test, which is the biopsy of the actual mass they removed, will not be back for about a week.

Basically, Ed continues to improve and that is the love of God at work in his body.  KEEP PRAYING my friends.  You can always call the church office to get updates as well.

That’s all for now!
